2-Alarm fire in Gurnee, 10-27-13

This just came in from Larry Shapiro: The Gurnee Fire Department was called out earlier today around midday to a fire at 17434 W. Walnut. When they arrived, crews discovered flames engulfing one unit of a six-unit townhouse complex. The situation quickly escalated; what started as a standard response turned into a Box Alarm, and soon after, a Second Alarm as the fire spread to neighboring units. Thanks to the firefighters' aggressive efforts, they managed to contain the blaze before it reached the end units. Unfortunately, three firefighters sustained minor injuries while battling the flames. Several residents also received medical attention on-site and signed medical release forms. Mutual aid support was provided by multiple departments including Beach Park, Grayslake, Mundelein, Waukegan, and Libertyville. Round Lake sent a truck, and Fox Lake dispatched a squad. Four mutual aid ambulances—Lincolnshire-Riverwoods, Lake Villa, Long Grove, and Zion—were present to assist with rehabilitation and transport duties. Here are some images captured from the scene.
