Yesterday at the Autodesk University (AU) London event, we were thrilled to share that the Autodesk Foundation will continue its commitment to supporting workers and workforce development by teaming up with the Aspen Institute’s Future of Work Initiative. This nonpartisan effort seeks innovative solutions to address the challenges posed by rising automation and emerging technologies in the workforce. By offering actionable strategies and recommendations to U.S. policymakers at all levels—federal, state, and local—the initiative fosters meaningful discussions about the evolving landscape of work.
New technologies and increased automation are reshaping industries and workforces right now. As these trends gain momentum, they could lead to significant transformations in the job market over the coming years. Instead of merely reacting to future disruptions, it's essential to anticipate these changes and develop proactive measures to ensure workers thrive in this new era. We’re enthusiastic about contributing to this dialogue by helping build a foundation of knowledge that empowers workers to succeed amidst technological advancements.

The Aspen Institute’s Future of Work Initiative zeroes in on policy solutions at various government levels to:
- Enhance economic stability for both traditional employees and freelancers.
- Expand access to high-quality education and training programs.
- Encourage businesses to focus on sustainable, long-term growth rather than just short-term profits.
Our first step into workforce development was announced at AU Las Vegas last year. The Autodesk Foundation initiated a collaboration with Village Capital aimed at accelerating ventures leveraging automation and machine learning to benefit workers.
Since unveiling our partnership last November, we've seen numerous applications from startups harnessing AI to empower individuals in the age of automation. Last week, ten organizations were selected to participate in a full-day forum titled *Automation & AI for Good* held at our San Francisco headquarters.
During the session, we engaged with these companies, listening to their pitches and providing guidance as they showcased their impactful work in automation and AI. Out of the ten participating firms, three were chosen as winners and granted financial backing along with mentorship from Autodesk leaders and other top tech firms. The winning startups include:
- **Green Badger**: Offers cloud-based automation and compliance solutions tailored for the eco-friendly construction sector.
- **Roadbotics**: Provides a cutting-edge automated road inspection tool using sophisticated machine learning techniques to modernize global road maintenance practices.
- **Quartolio**: An AI-driven knowledge management platform analyzing vast repositories of open-access content to deliver insightful findings to researchers.

The images above capture moments from the forum where participants exchanged ideas and insights. On the left is Jean Shia, Head of Portfolio and Investment at the Autodesk Foundation, speaking with a mentor during the event. To the right, winners from the June 12th gathering in San Francisco pose for a photo: Benjamin Schmidt from RoadBotics (Peer Choice), Tommy Linstroth from Green Badger (Jury Choice), and Nicole Bishop from Quartolio (Audience Choice).
These initiatives with the Aspen Institute and Village Capital align with the Autodesk Foundation’s broader mission to ready the workforce for tomorrow. Our aim is to back organizations employing automation and AI for positive societal impact while exploring innovative ways to equip future generations with skills needed to navigate the digital age successfully.
