I just got back from capturing some incredible scenes at a recent barn fire in Barrington Hills. The response was massive, with fire crews from multiple towns mobilizing to get the situation under control. It’s always fascinating to see how quickly these teams can set up a water shuttle system when needed.
The first image I took shows several tankers lined up along Penny Road, ready to dump their loads into portable tanks. You could really feel the energy as everyone worked together to ensure the fire didn’t spread further. The water supply officer was clearly in charge, making sure everything ran smoothly.
One of my favorite shots is of the Barrington fire engine drafting water directly from those portable tanks. It’s such an efficient way to keep the firefighting efforts going without interruption. And then there’s the moment when firefighters start reloading all that used hose back onto the engines—organized chaos at its finest.
There’s also this powerful shot of white smoke rising where the barn once stood. It reminded me of how important it is for firefighters to use Class A foam to douse any remaining embers. Safety is always top priority.
Not far away, you’ll find two massive HME chassis water tankers parked nearby, ready to assist if called upon. They’re impressive pieces of equipment, and seeing them in action gives you a real appreciation for modern firefighting capabilities.
And let’s not forget Arlington Heights’ new Ambulance 1! It’s always exciting to see upgrades like this, ensuring emergency medical services remain cutting-edge.
These photos capture just a fraction of what happened that day, but they tell a story of teamwork, preparation, and dedication. If you want to see more images, you can check them out [here]. It was quite the event, and I’m grateful I had the chance to document it all.
