Chicago 2-11 Alarm Fire 12-7-12 part 2

This report comes from Eric Haak:

At 1624 hours on Friday, December 7th, a fire broke out in an abandoned two-story building located at the corner of Drake and 16th Street in Chicago. The structure was a 50 x 125-foot residential unit above commercial space. Upon arrival, Engine 38 and 109, Ladder 48 and 32, along with the 14th Battalion were dispatched. Truck 26, assigned as RIT, was with the 13th Battalion. Just six minutes after the first units arrived, the companies switched to a defensive strategy after Ladder 48 reported a dangerously compromised roof.

At 1635 hours, the 14th Battalion requested the still and the box, and nine minutes later, a 2-11 alarm was called, followed by a 2-2-1 alarm. Squad 1 used a snorkel from a vacant lot to the southeast of the fire building, while Tower Ladder 54 took up position in Sector 1 on 16th Street. Tower Ladder 5 operated on Drake Street, directly west of the fire scene.

Eric Haak captured several powerful images from the scene, showing the intensity of the fire and the efforts of the responding units. These photos provide a rare glimpse into the chaos and coordination during a major incident like this.
