Flyability launches Inspector 3.0

April 20, 2021 — Flyability has introduced a groundbreaking new software called Inspector 3.0, designed to help inspectors accurately identify and locate defects found during internal inspections. Flyability, a pioneer in remote internal inspection solutions, is excited to announce the release of Inspector 3.0, which enhances the capabilities of its Elios 2 drone. After a successful beta phase involving over 150 users, the software is now available for all Elios 2 operators. “Inspector 3.0 marks a significant step forward in our mission to eliminate the need for humans to enter dangerous or confined spaces,” said Patrick Thévoz, CEO of Flyability. “Being able to pinpoint exactly where a defect is located within an asset not only improves inspector efficiency but also increases the value of the data collected for our clients.” In traditional manual inspections, inspectors can easily identify where a defect is because they are physically present at the location. However, with the use of Remote Visual Inspection (RVI) tools like the Elios 2, locating defects becomes more complex due to the absence of GPS or indoor positioning systems. Without built-in geolocation data, inspectors have had to rely on a mix of barometric readings, blueprints, maps, and video references to determine where a defect is located. This process was time-consuming and often inaccurate. Inspector 3.0 changes that by enabling users to generate a sparse point cloud directly from the data collected by the Elios 2. This allows inspectors to visualize exactly where defects appear within an asset, without the need for expensive LiDAR systems or lengthy photogrammetry processing. “This software solves a major challenge we've faced for years,” said Simon Kumm, Confined Space Inspections Expert at InspecDrone GmbH. “Now, we can know exactly where damage is located inside an asset.” Accurate location data is essential in maintenance operations. For example, when repairing a pipe in a wastewater system, digging the wrong spot could lead to costly delays and inefficiencies. Location data also helps coordinate different teams involved in maintenance, such as scaffolders and repair crews, ensuring everyone works from the same spatial understanding. “The localization feature in Inspector 3.0 is exactly what we needed,” said Thibault Chatillon, Innovation and Development Manager at Setec. “It’s something our customers have been asking for, and now it’s finally here.” Learn more about Inspector 3.0 and how it can transform your inspection workflow. --- About Flyability Flyability is a Swiss company dedicated to developing innovative solutions for inspecting and exploring indoor, inaccessible, and confined spaces.
