Northbrook technical rescue 3-18-14

This is from Larry Shapiro:

Northbrook Fire Department units were dispatched to 1751 W. Lake Cook Road in Deerfield before 11 a.m. today after a window washer fell 15 feet into a concrete well adjacent to a building. Upon arrival, firefighters found the worker trapped beneath a steel grate that had been covering the opening. The worker was performing his duties over the grate when an angle iron supporting one side of the structure gave way, causing the grate—and the worker—to collapse into the hole.

A Technical Rescue Team (TRT) was called in to assist. Firefighters descended into the well to stabilize the injured worker and secure him in a Stokes basket. Meanwhile, rope technicians set up a rigging system to hoist the patient to the surface. The operation required careful coordination between those in the hole and those on the ground, ensuring the safety of both the victim and the responders.
