This is from Scott Peterson:
This was a Wauconda Fire Protection District (FPD) box alarm on Tuesday, February 19, 2013, at 612 Shoreline Road in Lake Barrington Shores. It's a gated community. The initial dispatch was for smoke coming from the structure and a report of someone trapped inside. While en route, another medical alert was received indicating an activated smoke detector.Crews from Wauconda and Lake Zurich arrived quickly. Smoke was visible, and a line was pulled. The first-in engines from Wauconda and Lake Zurich conducted a fast knock on the fire. These crews were aware of the person reported trapped and immediately began a search, quickly locating the victim. The victim was then taken to a Nunda Rural ambulance that had been specially called by the Wauconda Shift Commander while still en route, as the Nunda unit was close to the scene.Unfortunately, after arriving at the hospital, the victim was pronounced deceased. The fire was contained to the original structure with no spread to adjacent units.I arrived just after the fire department had found and removed the victim during the primary search. Here are some photos of what the scene looked like at the time.Scott

It’s always hard to see these kinds of incidents, especially when someone doesn’t make it. I’ve seen a lot over the years, but every time it hits close to home. This was a pretty quick response, and the crews did their best under pressure. I hope this helps give a clearer picture of what happened that day.
