Wheeling brush fire 3-31-14

This is from Larry Shapiro:

It's that time of year again… The RED Center received multiple calls late Monday morning about brush fires near the Union Pacific railroad tracks in Wheeling, stretching from 444 Carpenter Street all the way north to Lake Cook Road. At the same time, they were also responding to additional fires along Bond Street in the Long Grove Fire Protection District, near Lincolnshire and Buffalo Grove. Fire crews from Buffalo Grove were also seen tackling blazes near the tracks as far north as Route 22.

The railroad company halted all train traffic through the area and had a recently passed train stop for inspection. Despite the wind-fueled spread, all fires were under control within roughly 90 minutes. Here are some of the most striking images from the largest fire, which occurred behind 250 Carpenter Street, just south of Dundee Road.

It’s a reminder of the importance of vigilance during dry seasons and the dedication of the firefighters who work tirelessly to keep communities safe.
