Late last night on December 30th, I received a message from Larry Shapiro about an incident in Buffalo Grove. A small fire had broken out near a townhouse located at 211 Winding Oak Lane. Initially, Engine 26 was dispatched to check if the fire had been successfully put out by the resident. However, upon arrival, firefighters discovered that the fire had spread underneath the rear sliding door and had managed to enter the crawlspace beneath the unit.
Realizing the seriousness of the situation, the response level was escalated from an investigation to a full-blown working fire operation. Assistance was quickly called in from neighboring departments including Arlington Heights, Long Grove, Lincolnshire-Riverwoods, Palatine, and Wauconda. In order to fully assess the damage and ensure the fire hadn’t spread further, much of the flooring in the affected unit had to be removed to gain access to the crawlspace.
