Radio traffic from the 3-11 alarm fire
This account comes from Steve Redick:
The fire occurred on the evening of April 30th, near 48th Place, just west of Kedzie Avenue. Initially, crews responded to an auto fire adjacent to a building, but it quickly escalated into a working fire. From what I could see, the structure was fire-resistive with concrete floors. The fire involved a large area of the first floor filled with mattresses and foam padding. The weather was terrible—rain kept the smoke low and visibility very limited. Flash photography was nearly impossible, and both my camera and I ended up soaked. The new TL 39 and TL 54 engines were used with low-profile nozzles to push water deep into the building. Multiversals and multiple handlines were also deployed. The attack lasted several hours, and in the later stages, cautious interior assessments were conducted using thermal imaging cameras and search ropes. You can view all the photos here:

Excerpts from the Chicago Tribune:
Two firefighters were injured after an "incendiary and suspicious in nature" extra-alarm fire broke out at a mattress warehouse Saturday evening in the Brighton Park neighborhood on the Southwest Side.
The fire started around 7:40 p.m. at the four-story warehouse near South Christiana Avenue and West 48th Place, according to the Chicago Fire Department.
The response to the blaze was raised to a 2-11 alarm about 8:30 p.m. and to a 3-11 alarm about 9 p.m.
Two firefighters suffered minor injuries as a result of the fire. One of them was taken to Holy Cross Hospital, and the second firefighter was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center. Both are in good condition.
The blaze was extinguished about 10:45 p.m. An investigation by the fire department determined the fire was suspicious, and the Chicago Police Department will continue the investigation.
