**SAN RAFAEL, Calif. – (BUSINESS WIRE)** – Autodesk, Inc. (NASDAQ: ADSK), a global leader in design and engineering software, and ZWCAD Software Co., Ltd., ZWCAD Design Co., Ltd., HK ZWCAD Software Ltd., and GLOBAL FORCE DIRECT, LLC (trading as ZWCADUSA) (together referred to as "ZWSoft"), have reached an agreement to settle two ongoing legal disputes—one in The Hague and another in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California. AutoCAD, Autodesk's flagship product, remains one of the most widely utilized design tools worldwide.
The conflict began after Autodesk uncovered evidence suggesting that ZWSoft had unlawfully used AutoCAD's intellectual property while creating its ZWCAD+ software. Based on this, Autodesk initiated legal action against ZWSoft in the Netherlands on February 19, 2014 (Case No. C/09/460412 / KG ZA 14-178), followed by a similar lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California on March 26, 2014 (Case No. 14-cv-1409-EJD). In these cases, Autodesk accused ZWSoft of misappropriating and improperly utilizing AutoCAD's source code during the development of ZWCAD+.
Initially, ZWSoft denied these claims. However, further investigation revealed that an employee had indeed misused AutoCAD’s intellectual property in the creation of ZWCAD+. Acknowledging this mistake, ZWSoft’s CEO, Truman Du, has publicly admitted the wrongdoing and committed to halting the sale, licensing, or distribution of ZWCAD+ across all markets, effective immediately. Both parties have now signed a binding settlement agreement to resolve the ongoing litigation, though the financial details remain undisclosed.
