**SAN RAFAEL, Calif. – (BUSINESS WIRE)** – Autodesk, Inc. (Nasdaq: ADSK), a global leader in design and engineering software, and ZWCAD Software Co., Ltd., ZWCAD Design Co., Ltd., HK ZWCAD Software Ltd., and GLOBAL FORCE DIRECT, LLC. (trading as ZWCADUSA) (collectively referred to as “ZWSoftâ€), have reached a settlement regarding ongoing legal disputes in The Hague and the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California. AutoCAD, Autodesk’s flagship product, is among the most widely-used design tools globally.
Following an investigation revealing that ZWSoft had allegedly misused Autodesk's AutoCAD intellectual property during the development of its ZWCAD+ products, Autodesk filed lawsuits against ZWSoft. The first lawsuit was initiated in The Hague in the Netherlands on February 19, 2014 (Case No. C/09/460412 / KG ZA 14-178), while the second lawsuit was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California on March 26, 2014 (Case No. 14-cv-1409-EJD). In these cases, Autodesk claimed that the ZWCAD+ products were developed using AutoCAD’s proprietary source code without proper authorization.
Initially, ZWSoft denied the accusations; however, further investigation uncovered that a ZWSoft employee had indeed misused AutoCAD’s intellectual property during the creation of ZWCAD+.
Acknowledging this mistake, Truman Du, CEO of ZWSoft, publicly admitted the wrongdoing and committed to ceasing the sale, licensing, or distribution of ZWCAD+ across all markets, effective immediately. Both parties have now finalized a confidential settlement agreement to conclude their legal proceedings, with an undisclosed amount being paid to Autodesk as part of the resolution.
