This is from Steve Redick:
I returned from Arkansas with a lot of my dad’s collection. Among the items was a series of 3x5 color prints from a fire incident we attended in 1974, which took place at a cold storage warehouse. The building burned for several days and eventually collapsed onto an adjacent structure, triggering an extra alarm. We arrived well after the initial response and were able to tour the fireground, capturing these rare images of classic fire apparatus in action. One of the photos features Big John in the background, and it's one of the few that show both water cannons operating simultaneously. Most of the time, the water supply wasn’t sufficient to run both. Also, note the 2000-GPM LaFrances, which often used both ports on the hydrant. There was a strict rule that no other pumper could share a hydrant with a 2000-gallon rig, allowing them to fully utilize both steamer ports. The original photos were in terrible condition—colors were off, and they were faded. I was surprised by how much of the damage I could restore. They’re not perfect, but at least they’re now usable. I think if I converted them to black and white, they would look almost perfect. Enjoy this piece of history.
