**August 5, 2015** – Over the last year, Nihon Sekkei, Inc. and Autodesk, Inc. have collaborated to enhance building information modeling (BIM) practices in Japan. Together, they’ve been working on a system designed to maximize the advantages of BIM for facility owners and across entire building lifecycles. Recently, they’ve shared the outcomes of their first-year partnership along with their future ambitions.
Nihon Sekkei and Autodesk have successfully developed an integrated BIM system tailored to meet Japan’s specific needs for BIM workflows that leverage building lifecycle information. Their joint efforts have resulted in a unified platform built on Autodesk Revit. This platform supports:
- Uniform usage of information across architectural, construction, and facility-design workflows, streamlining operational coordination between these processes;
- Visualization and confirmation of structural performance and specifications beyond just 3D modeling, helping project teams align their understanding of these models;
- Seamless data sharing between domestic design software, fluid analysis tools, and accounting systems during facility design, which enhances overall design quality;
- Creation of new workflows to utilize revised design drawing standards at both design and construction sites;
- Deployment of Autodesk Dynamo to automate facility design through algorithms and optimize lifecycle costs;
- A roadmap to implement standardized information in future operations and maintenance activities.
**Future Plans**
The two companies are committed to testing their Integrated BIM system across the entire building lifecycle, from initial consultation and design phases all the way through to operation and management. Their goal is to deliver a value-added solution for construction and building management tailored specifically for Japanese facility owners and users.
Moreover, as part of globalizing their workflows, they will engage in exchanges—not only between themselves but also with leading foreign firms and educational institutions specializing in BIM. Both organizations intend to actively share knowledge and technology, striving to openly distribute their accomplishments within the industry.
