**Munich, January 31, 2020 —** Software powerhouse Autodesk and European construction giant STRABAG have signed a letter of intent in Munich, signaling their commitment to deepen collaboration in driving digital transformation across the European construction industry. This partnership builds on their longstanding relationship, with a particular focus on co-developing BIM (Building Information Modeling) software tailored to meet the unique needs of the European market. STRABAG's extensive hands-on experience in executing projects across Europe offers valuable insights into real-world challenges, enabling the creation of software solutions that are both innovative and practical. These tools will undergo rigorous testing and optimization within ongoing construction projects.
A key emphasis of this collaboration lies in enhancing applications for construction and logistics processes. Both companies believe there is significant untapped potential in leveraging BIM technology to streamline workflows and improve efficiency. As a first step, joint workshops are being organized where experts from both organizations will explore critical issues and identify opportunities for growth. One of the initial areas of focus is infrastructure—a strategic priority for STRABAG. With Germany alone facing the monumental task of renovating approximately 2,500 bridges to accommodate growing traffic demands, the demand for advanced BIM tools is only set to increase. Additionally, public sector tenders now require BIM as part of the planning process starting in 2020.
Klemens Haselsteiner, newly appointed STRABAG SE Management Board member for Digitalization, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership: “For years, we’ve valued our strong collaboration with Autodesk in defining and advancing BIM software. As a leading construction service provider, our mission is to accelerate the digitization of the European construction sector. Advancing Building Information Modeling, particularly through applications targeting construction and logistics, remains central to our vision.â€
Andrew Anagnost, CEO of Autodesk, echoed this sentiment: “Europe, especially the German-speaking regions, holds immense importance for us. We’re thrilled to partner with STRABAG, a company whose expertise and forward-thinking approach align perfectly with our goals. Together, we aim to develop cutting-edge solutions that address future market needs.â€
Beyond traditional BIM implementations, the alliance also plans to explore pre-construction methodologies, such as modular and off-site design. By combining STRABAG’s practical construction site experience with Autodesk’s deep expertise in manufacturing and production, they hope to enhance the pre-construction phase significantly. This integrated approach promises to yield smarter, more efficient building practices.
