Winnetka Box Alarm 11-15-12 (updated)

The Winnetka Fire Department was called to a residence on the 800 block of Bryant Avenue before 4 a.m. upon arrival, firefighters discovered a basement fire in a home that was in the final stages of renovation. The blaze quickly spread through the first floor and moved into the walls, reaching the second level. The initial Code 3 alarm was escalated to a Code 4 and then to a Box Alarm at 4:30 a.m., indicating a significant fire response. Tim Olk arrived early and captured several compelling images of the scene. Later, Larry Shapiro also arrived and submitted his own set of photos, offering additional perspectives of the incident. Multiple fire companies were dispatched to the location, including engine units from Winnetka, Glencoe, Highland Park, and Evanston. Ambulances from Winnetka and Wilmette were also on the scene. Aerial ladder trucks from Winnetka, Northfield, Highwood, Glenview, and Skokie responded as well. Additionally, Morton Grove Squad 4 and chief officers from Winnetka, Wilmetta, Northbrook, Northfield, and Glenview were present. Several photographs from the event are available, showing the extent of the damage and the efforts of the responding crews. One image captures fire visible through a kitchen window as firefighters use a hand line from the window well. Another shows thick smoke filling the first floor after interior operations were suspended. A third photo highlights firefighters using a hose line from the backyard into the kitchen area. Northfield Truck 29 and Glenview Truck 14 had their aerials raised in anticipation of potential fire spread. Glenview Truck 14 positioned itself carefully to maneuver its ladder over the roof and through trees. The large home, which was nearly finished with renovations, showed extensive damage, particularly in the kitchen area directly above the fire’s origin.
