SAN FRANCISCO – (BUSINESS WIRE) – Build Conference – In a significant move to shape the future of digital and physical creation, Autodesk, Inc. (NASDAQ: ADSK) has announced two major collaborations aimed at making 3D design and manufacturing more accessible and efficient. The first initiative involves integrating its Spark 3D printing platform directly into Windows 10, while the second focuses on enabling seamless interaction between Autodesk’s 3D modeling tools and Microsoft’s HoloLens mixed reality headset.
The integration of Spark into Windows 10 will provide users with a streamlined and optimized 3D printing experience, supporting a wide range of software, materials, and printers. Autodesk is also offering free access to Spark APIs for Microsoft developers, encouraging innovation and expanding the 3D printing ecosystem. Additionally, Autodesk has joined the 3D Manufacturing Format (3MF) Consortium as a founding member, working alongside Microsoft to establish a universal standard for 3D printing and file exchange.
“We’re at a pivotal moment in 3D printing,†said Steve Guggenheimer, Corporate Vice President of Developer Platform & Evangelism at Microsoft. “By embedding Spark into Windows 10, Autodesk is giving developers the tools they need to confidently explore this emerging field.â€
The second collaboration brings Autodesk’s 3D modeling software, such as Fusion 360 and Maya, into the mixed reality environment of HoloLens. This allows designers, engineers, and creators to visualize full-scale models in real-time, improving efficiency and reducing the need for physical prototypes. For entertainment professionals, it could revolutionize how games and films are developed, while for engineers, it opens up new possibilities in product design and development.
Looking ahead, users could create 3D models using Autodesk’s tools, view them through HoloLens, and then prepare them for printing on Spark-compatible devices. This end-to-end workflow promises to make 3D design and production more intuitive and accessible than ever before.
“3D printing holds incredible potential, but it still faces challenges in usability and reliability,†said Samir Hanna, Vice President and General Manager of Consumer and 3D Printing at Autodesk. “This partnership with Microsoft is a key step in simplifying the process and making 3D technology available to a broader audience.â€
