Johnson Controls to Provide Lithium Battery for Plug-in Hybrid Trucks

Johnson Controls recently announced that as part of the U.S. Department of Energy’s transportation electrification plan, the company will supply approximately 120 large plug-in hybrid trucks with lithium-ion batteries.

OdyneSystems will supply plug-in hybrid systems for about 120 trucks. These systems will use lithium-ion batteries produced by Johnson Controls. The users of these trucks are U.S. utility companies and municipal utilities.

Johnson Controls said that the company's lithium-ion battery technology can help large fleets reduce fuel consumption, operating costs and gas emissions. Compared to traditional diesel or gasoline engines, Odyne's hybrid system can increase truck fuel economy by up to 50%.

To fulfill this supply contract, Johnson Controls will produce lithium-ion batteries at its Holland plant in Michigan, USA, which is also the first plant in the United States to produce lithium-ion batteries for automobiles and complete hybrid battery systems.
