On April 15, 1960, Jinan Automobile Manufacturing Co., Ltd. produced the first heavy-duty vehicle Yellow River JN150 in China, which ended the history that China could not produce heavy-duty vehicles.
Jinan Automobile Manufacturing Plant was established in 1956. During the planned economy period, the company itself could not decide what products to produce, and Jinan Automobile Manufacturing Plant strived for the production of an 8-ton off-road vehicle.
After obtaining the production task, Jinan Automobile obtained two Skoda 706 series trucks from the Department of Transportation, and used them as prototypes (one dismantling and one mapping) to start the imitation work.
With the enthusiasm of building the motherland, engineers of Jinan Automotive invested in the lack of funds and equipment, using simple tools and equipment to carry out imitation work, and completed drawing work in two months.
In April 1964, the first batch of two 8-ton trucks was finally trial-produced successfully. Since Jinan is located on the Yellow River bank, this new car was named Yellow River JN150. Next, the factory organized another 25,000-kilometer road test.
The Yellow River JN150 passed the acceptance inspection in 1963 and began mass production. Since then, Jinan Automobile has launched a number of Yellow River trucks, which are the main force of China's heavy trucks for the next 20 years.
After the reform and opening up, Jinan Automobile introduced foreign technology and gradually developed into China National Heavy Duty Truck Group, becoming one of the most important enterprises in China's commercial vehicle industry.
