Han Shipbuilding Technology Leads China 5.8 Years

The Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry, a key organization similar to China's Federation of Industry and Commerce, recently released a comprehensive report comparing the technological advancements in seven major manufacturing sectors between China and South Korea. These sectors include machinery, steel, electronics, automobiles, and shipbuilding. According to the study, South Korea holds a significant technological edge over China in these industries, with an average lead of 4.6 years. Notably, the shipbuilding industry shows the largest gap, with South Korea leading by approximately 5.8 years in overall technical capabilities. Within this sector, South Korea maintains a substantial advantage in new product development (6.2 years), design (6.3 years), and production (6.2 years). This highlights the advanced level of innovation and efficiency in South Korean shipbuilding, which continues to outpace its Chinese counterpart. The findings underscore the importance of continued investment in research and development for China to close the technological gap. Meanwhile, South Korea’s focus on high-tech manufacturing and innovation has solidified its position as a global leader in several industrial sectors.
