Siemens Power Generation Group has secured a major contract to supply six compressors and three steam turbines for the ethylene plant in Dushanzi, Xinjiang—the largest of its kind in China. This state-of-the-art facility will produce 1 million tons of ethylene and 500,000 tons of propylene annually, serving as a critical source of raw materials for plastic manufacturing. Expected to be completed and operational in the second half of 2008, the project marks a significant milestone in China's petrochemical industry.
The equipment provided by Siemens includes five horizontal split single-shaft compressors (STC-SH) and one vertical split compressor (STC-SV), capable of handling up to 480,000 cubic meters of gas per hour. These units will be manufactured and commissioned by subsidiaries in Görlitz and Duisburg under the Siemens Power Generation Group. The steam turbine-compressor systems are designed to handle feed gases, including ethylene and propylene, ensuring efficient and reliable operation.
A senior representative from Siemens' Process Compressor Business Unit highlighted that this order reinforces the company’s strong growth in the Chinese market and its leading position in the petrochemical sector, particularly in large-scale facilities. With global demand for ethylene rising rapidly, Siemens has already secured five similar orders this year. In China, the production capacity for ethylene and propylene is expanding swiftly. Industry forecasts suggest that by 2009, China's ethylene output will exceed 4.5 million tons—more than four times the 2006 level—while propylene demand is expected to reach 2.3 million tons between 2006 and 2009. This project underscores Siemens’ commitment to supporting the country’s industrial growth and energy infrastructure.
