This unit, introduced by Carrier around 2012 as part of their Gemini® Select line, was marketed with a new microchannel heat exchanger design called Novation®. The company claimed it was a "robust, cost-effective alternative" to traditional coil designs. While this might sound appealing at first glance, many users found themselves facing more problems than savings over time.
The microchannel coils used in the 38APS/38APD units are known for frequent leaks, damage from foreign materials, and difficulty during repairs. These issues often lead to higher long-term costs and downtime—far from the reliable performance customers expect from a commercial HVAC system.

Available for smaller units (025–065), these coils come in both dual and single refrigeration circuits. Larger units (070–130) are only available in dual refrigeration circuits.
